Mission
OpenIDbyCard.com is a free service to all who want to use their own information cards at any OpenID login on the web.
We want to bring the phishing resistance inherent to implementations of the Microsoft's CardSpace Framework for information cards
to the world of OpenID. No need to register at an open service provider, just use your own information cards.
How it works
Whenever you come to any OpenID login there is only one URL to remember:
OpenIDbyCard.com. That's it. Instead of bothering with an
OpenID-Server your information card selector will pop up and you select the card you want to use for login.
Example OpenID login (not functional):
Note: You need not care about upper/lower case input: openidbycard.com will work as well.
Finally you click the send button on the confirmation page to finish the login. Some OpenID sites do not support shortcut URLs such as
openidbycard.com.
Dont't mind, on the confirmation page a fully qualified URL for this site will be displayed. You might simply want to use this (longer) URL at
that particular site.
For the geeks
Technically speaking OpenIDbyCard is a gateway between the worlds of OpenID and information cards according to Microsoft's CardSpace framework.
OpenIDbyCard.com translates between the SREG-Claims of OpenID and the standard claims
supported by Microsoft's CardSpace implementation. So using self issued cards at OpenID logins shouldn't be a problem. Any other claim is
passed without any changes.
Where are the standards heading?
Currently OpenID and information cards à la CardSpace are the contenders for managing identities on the internet.
We love both worlds and actively participate in the development of an identity meta system for the internet. Hopefully the identity community
will develop the standards in a way that they grow together. In the meanwhile OpenIDbyCard.com is a practical contribution to make life easier
for users that will come along logins of both types.
